Day 1

Start your Swiss Panoramas rail tour from any location in Switzerland and travel by train to Lausanne, right on Lake Geneva. Take your time to acclimatise and explore the medieval streets of this French speaking town. Stay the night in the charming Hotel Alagare***, a short walk from the train station.

It is possible to add train tickets to Switzerland to your booking. Additional fees applicable.

Day 2

The first full day of your rail tour starts with a short trip to the resort town of Montreux. Here you will change and continue with the Golden Pass panoramic train. Enjoy stunning views of Lake Geneva as you head towards Interlaken. By BOB (Bernese Oberlandbahnen) train you will reach your day's destination of Lauterbrunnen, a village tucked beneath towering cliffs. Your accommodation for the night is Hotel Silberhorn*** with its lovely sundeck and views on the Staubbach Falls. In the afternoon there is time to visit the mountain village of Mürren with its impressive views on the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger peaks.

Day 3

The itinerary for day 3 includes crossing the Brünig Pass to Lucerne and travelling by boat across Lake Lucerne to Flüelen. Continue by train on the beautiful Gotthard railway to the Italian speaking town of Lugano with its Mediterranean atmosphere of the Ticino region. Overnight stay at Hotel Federale*** in the city's historic district.

Day 4

Travel from Lugano to Tirano by Bernina Bus past the Italian Lakes*. In Tirano you will hop on the famous Bernina Express, which connects the palm trees of Italy to the glaciers of the snowcapped Alps. The Bernina is the highest railway across the Alps and you will ascend from 421m to 2253m above sea level. Spend the night in Bergün, an authentic mountain village in the Canton of Grisons on the Albula railway. Stay at Hotel Albula*** near the train station.

*Daily connection from 09.04.20 untill 25.10.20. Only Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 20.02.20 - 05.04.20 and 29.10.20 - 29.11.20. Outside this period, you will travel by train to Tirano (via Milan).

Add-on Niesen (8 May - 8 Nov)

Niesen is a unique and small-scale mountain lodge (2362m) with 360-degree views on the Bernese Highlands (Simmental, Kandertal and Lake Thun). Watching the sunrise and sunset from here is a magical experience. There are no wintersports activities on offer, but plenty of walking trails. If you are feeling adventurous you could take the challenging stairway which runs along the cog railway up the mountain. With its 11,674 steps it is considered the world's longest stairway. Plan a visit to the "off the beaten track" Niesen mountain, fondly called the "Swiss Pyramid" for it's perfect triangular shape, and enjoy the beautiful panorama.

The Niesen mountain lodge is open from the 8th of May till the 8th of November 2020. In the months May und June, the lodge is closed on Mondays.

Excursion Jungfraujoch (3454m)

The Jungfraujoch railway station is Europe’s highest at 3454m above sea level. Our recommendation: travel via Lauterbrunnen when going up and via Grindelwald when coming down. The journey via Lauterbrunnen/Wengen starts off with spectacular views on the waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen valley. After crossing the tree line the imposing Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks emerge. The Jungfraubahn runs through the Eiger north face, past the Eiger glacier station at 2320m and through a tunnel to Jungfraujoch station at 3454m.

On the Jungfraujoch, the scenery and panoramic views will take your breath away. You are invited to visit the Glacier Ice Palace (included in the price) or take part in various sorts of wintersports activities (for an extra fee). It is possible to hike in an hour to the Mönchsjochhütte as well, the highest serviced mountain refuge in Switzerland. Hiking boots recommended!

The regular price of a Jungfraujoch excursion is €210 p.p.

To fully enjoy this excursion, we recommend you to take it easy and add an extra night's accommodation.

€97 p.p.

Add-on Alp Grüm

Located at an altitude of 2092m between Tirano and St. Moritz and only accessible by train, Alp Grüm is a unique place in the Alps. After a thorough renovation, the Alp Grüm Albergo Ristorante has recently opened its doors again. The hotel is situated in the former, traditional train station and offers colourful rooms with magnificent views and great mountain gastronomy. Enjoy the views (of Val Poschiavo and the Palü Glacier) and the serenity between the majestic mountains and alpine meadows. The hotel has two sundecks for relaxation and is also a great base for hiking. Recommended hikes are: via Belvedere along the train tracks to Ospizio Bernina (return by train), to the foot of the Palü Glacier or to Cavaglia (return by train).

This add-on includes 1 night accommodation in a 2 person room or single room with shower + toilet. Breakfast included. The hotel is open all year round, except during the following period: 20.04.20 - 09.05.20.

from €99 p.p.p.n.

Glacier Express lunch

For this optional 3-course lunch, your table will be set with fine linen. All food is freshly prepared in the restaurant car and served with care at your seat. Great food to compliment the stunning views. Highly recommended!

€42 p.p.

Excursion Gornergrat (3089m)

The excursion to the Gornergrat (3089m) is highly recommended. Even for Swiss standards, the views from the train and from the Gornergrat mountain are sublime. While gaining elevation, the sight of the iconic Matterhorn remains astounding. There are hardly any tunnels and the unobstructed views are breathtaking. It takes 33 minutes to reach the top, trains depart at least every half an hour.

From the top (keep in mind that it is 10-15 degrees colder here than in Zermatt), 29 four-thousand-meter peaks can be seen including the Matterhorn, Dente Blanche, Monte Rosa and Dufourspitze, whereas three large glaciers shine in the distance. Enjoy the scenery and fresh mountain air from Hotel Kulm and its sundeck.

To fully enjoy this excursion we recommend you to take it easy and add an extra night's accommodation.

€45 p.p.

Add-on Furka cogwheel steam railway

The reopened historic railway Gletsch - Oberwald makes the entire Furka Pass from Realp to Oberwald accessible again. After the opening of the Furka Tunnel in 1982, this rail line fell into disrepair. Countless volunteers repaired this unique railway and renovated the rail carriages over a period of 28 years. Even the original steam locomotives, which had been sold to Vietnam were bought back.

The steam railway takes you above the tree line to alpine heights of 2163m to the Furka station. Most stations along the railway are remotely located and not accessible by car. The steam trains have 2nd class carriages and a small number of 1st class seats and open carriages! The atmosphere and scenery are fantastic.

Day 1 – travel to Andermatt by Glacier Express, stay in a hotel*** close to the station.

Day 2 – Travel by regional train to Realp (leave your luggage in Andermatt at the hotel / station). The Furka steam railway departs at 10:15, arriving in Oberwald at 12:30. Take the regional train back to Andermatt to collect your luggage. Continue your journey and take the Glacier Express to Zermatt.

In case you travel from Zermatt to St Moritz, you take the Furka steam railway on day 1.

Furka steam railway days of service:
13 June to 5 July 2020: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays
6 July to 16 August 2020: daily
17 August to 27 September 2020: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays

from €239 p.p.
