Day 1 - Toledo
The rail tour starts in the capital Madrid. Take the high-speed Avant train (2nd class only) to Toledo. Travel time: 33min. Toledo is a beautiful Medieval town on the Tagus River, nicknamed the 'Imperial City' and 'City of the three cultures'. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city's many cultural treasures.
Overnight stay in Hotel Princesa Galiana***, opposite the train station and close to the old town.

Day 2 - Cuenca
Continue the rail tour by taking a high-speed train to Cuenca (via Madrid). Travel time: 2h10min. Cuenca is a stunning city, famous for its Casas Colgadas (hanging houses) which are listed on UNESCO's world heritage list.
Overnight stay in the historic Posada de San Jose*** situated in the old town. Beautiful views from the rooms.
Day 3 - Avila
Take the AVE or MD (2nd class only) train to Avila (via Madrid). Travel time: 3h20min. The impressive city walls of Avila enclose the centre entirely and are the most complete fortifications in Spain. The old town, packed with churches, is a lovely place to get lost.
Stay at Hotel Reina Isabel***, not far from the train station and the entry gate to the old town.
Day 4 - Segovia
Travel from Avila via Valladolid to Segovia by MD (2nd class only) or AVE train. It is possible to have a longer stop in Valladolid to have a look around town. Travel time: 2h15min. For many travellers, Segovia is the absolute highlight of the rail tour. Visit the stunning and immense Roman aquaduct, the Alcazar de Segovia castle and the beautiful cathedral.
Spend the night in Hotel Palacio San Facundo***, close to the Roman aquaduct.
The last day of the rail tour takes you back to Madrid. There is an hourly connection by Avant or Alvia train. Travel time: 30min.
