Want to start our rail tour somewhere else? Not a problem. Just let us know and we will book you connecting train tickets to Madrid or Bilbao, and get you back home at the end of the tour. Additional fees will apply.

Day 1 - Bilbao

Start the rail tour in Spain's capital Madrid. Travel by high-speed Avant train to Bilbao. In the afternoon there is time to explore the city, for instance visit the world famous Guggenheim Museum. The hotel for the day is centrally located, close to the train station and the historic center.

Day 2 - Santillana del Mar & Altamira Caves

In the morning, take the train via Santander to Torrelavega. The service is run by FEVE, which operates a narrow-gauge railway network of 1192km in Northern Spain. It is one of the most extensive narrow gauge networks on the continent. In Torrelavega, continue by bus. It is only a 15min ride to one of the most beautiful villages of Northern Spain: Santillana del Mar. Spend the afternoon in lovely Santillana or visit the impressive Altamira Caves with the oldest rock paintings of Europe. Overnight stay in a charming hotel in the village.

Day 3 - Llanes

In the morning, take the bus back to Torrelavega and continue by train to Llanes in Asturias. The hotel in Llanes is located against the old city walls and right above the beach.

Day 4 - Oviedo

Enjoy Llanes and its surroundings. Walk a part of the coastal track (and take the train back) or spend some time at the beach. In the late afternoon, continue the rail tour by taking a FEVE train to Oviedo. The hotel is located in the old town of Oviedo.

Day 5 - Santiago de Compostela

On today's programme is a train journey along the rias (coastal inlets) of Galicia. The last stretch of the journey is by bus to famous Santiago de Compostela, the destination of the famous pilgrims' way Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James). Spend the night in a hotel close to the old town and the train station.

Day 6 - Santiago de Compostela

Free day in wonderful Santiago de Compostela. A visit to the cathedral is not to be missed.

Day 7 - Madrid

Travel by high-speed Alvia train to Madrid.

Burgos is a beautiful historic city with the third largest cathedral in Spain. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Castilia. Hotel Mesón del Cid is situated in the medieval town centre across from the cathedral.
