Bilbao
The largest city of the Basque Country is world famous thanks to the exceptional Guggenheim Museum. When the steel industry collapsed in the 1990s and factories had to close down, modern architecture and art were given way. In addition to the Guggenheim Museum, a metro, a city tram and the conference centre Palacio Eukalduna were developed during this time. Bilbao is also the perfect place to pamper yourself with culinary delights. Very popular and omnipresent are the Pintxos, the Basque version of Tapas. There are numerous Pintxos bars in the Casco Viejo, the old part of town. The most exciting part of the old town are seven connecting side streets known as the 'Siete Calles'.

León
The city has some stunning sights dating back to medieval times. The exceptional cathedral, the Royal Pantheon where 23 monarchs have been buried and Hostal de San Marcos, a hotel in a former 16th century monastery, are not to be missed. Another striking sight is the Contemporary Art Museum of Castilla y León. The coloured exterior panels resemble the stained-glass windows of the cathedral and thus create a bridge between old and new times. Be sure to visit Barrio Húmedo as well. This district is famous for its tapas culture. Small glasses of beer or wine accompany each tapa. The most lively part of the neighbourhood is Plaza de San Martin.
